The German M35 History:
The M1935 helmet design started in 1932 due to the German Army High Command wanting to update the older existing M16 helmet design. The helmets were made entirely from a composite plastic material called “Vulkanfiber”. The M35 design was a lot like the M16 design, but the M35 helmets were a lot smaller and lighter than the M16’s.
The M35 lost the 2 horn-like ventilator lugs on the sides and were replaced by 2 hollow rivet ventilation holes. The helmets were also trimmed down a lot, which made them significantly smaller and lighter than the previous M16 helmet model.
Millions of German M35 helmets were made, which made them the iconic and most used German helmet of World War 2. The second most manufactured helmet of World War 2 was the German M42 helmet.
